Description:

A growing body of basic science, clinical research, and population health evidence points to the benefits of healthy behaviors, environments and policies to prevent, treat, and reverse chronic disease. Innovations in research methodologies, standards of evidence, emergence of unique study cohorts, and breakthroughs in data analytics and modeling create new possibilities for producing biomedical knowledge and clinical translation. The Lifestyle Medicine Research Summit convened over 40 scientists, researchers, practitioners and agency leaders at the University of Pittsburgh with support from the Ardmore Institute of Health. This presentation will summarize the Summit findings and recommendations with the goal of increasing research support and accelerating the adoption of lifestyle medicine into clinical practice and policies.

Learning objectives:

  1. Describe recent foundational basic science areas of research which are aligned with the practice of lifestyle medicine.
  2. Review prioritized research questions in each of the six domains of lifestyle medicine.
  3. Understand key populations, emerging research methodologies and hierarchies of evidence which must be addressed to further advance lifestyle medicine research and practice.
