Description: This webinar will address the need for improved clinician care and well-being, current issues relevant to clinician health and well-being, how to identify, distinguish, and prevent burnout, and strategies for optimizing clinician's ability to care for themselves, and in turn care for others.

Learning Objectives:
1. Explore the research on clinician well-being and implications for physical and mental health.
2. Distinguish symptoms of decreased well-being in yourself, colleagues and patients.
3. Apply specific strategies to increase and optimize well-being.

Speakers Bios:
Alyssa Vela, PhD, LP
Assistant Professor of Surgery and Psychiatry @Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine
Dr. Alyssa Vela is an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Psychiatry at Northwestern's Feinberg School of Medicine and a Clinical Health Psychologist with the Cardiac Behavioral Medicine Service at Northwestern Medicine. Dr. Vela is a graduate of the Health Psychology PhD program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She completed her residency at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center and a fellowship in Clinical Health Psychology with an emphasis in medical education at McLaren Flint/Michigan State College of Human Medicine. Her clinical and research interests include prevention and treatment of cardiometabolic conditions, diagnosis and treatment of disordered eating behaviors among individuals with cardiometabolic conditions, and culturally-adapted lifestyle interventions. She is also passionate about addressing issues related to diversity and health disparities in medicine, and medical education with a focus on culturally-considerate communication.
